How To: Play Pokémon GO in Fullscreen on Your OnePlus 6T

How To: Play Pokémon GO in Fullscreen on Your OnePlus 6T
Phone displays have gotten taller in the past few years, and it seems the OnePlus 6T might not make use of the entire screen by default for a few games. Most games play nicely with the large display on the 6T and its teardrop camera notch, but Pokémon GO is one that doesn't scale correctly. Until an official fix happens, there's a quick workaround you can use to make things a bit better. In case you didn't know, Pokémon GO took the world by storm a few years back with its new way of catching our favorite critters on the go using augmented reality. You might be surprised to know the game is going strong and is as popular as ever with a constant flow of updates. You can now trade with your friends, participate in raids, and even do weekly research quests for special trainer rewards.

Enabling Fullscreen Mode for Pokémon GOOnePlus includes an option in the system settings on your phone to make apps scale to fullscreen mode if they refuse to do so. There are two different settings you can choose from called "Default" and "Fullscreen mode."Unless you've had problems with some older apps not scaling correctly, you've probably never had to mess with these settings. Most games in default mode will fill the screen all the way to the notch area, but Pokémon GO strangely falls into the category of apps or games not scaling to the display for some odd reason. Settings > Display > App display in fullscreen > Pokémon GO To remedy this problem real quick, head to the location listed above in your system settings, scroll through the list of your installed apps to locate Pokémon GO, then tap it to bring up the two previously mentioned display scaling options. Just toggle the game to "Fullscreen mode," then tap "Done."That's all there is to it! The next time you launch the game, it will show the entire screen with the teardrop notch cutout included. (1) What you see when using "Default" mode. Much of the screen is missing; it's not even close. (2) What you see when using "Fullscreen" mode. Much better! I know some people have taken issue with the notch getting in the way during gaming, but it's only a minor inconvenience at worst with a game like this played in portrait mode. It might not be ideal for some since most games won't do this in default mode, but it's better than missing a lot of your screen real estate all the same. Here's to hoping we'll see an update in the future that makes it scale correctly in default mode like most other games already do on the 6T.Don't Miss: 20 Free Games You Can Play on Android Without Any InternetFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

News: No, You Won't Accidentally Buy Apps Just by Looking at Your iPhone X

For those worried that a lustful gaze at a new app on their iPhone X will authorize its purchase, we have great news for you. With Face ID, the new security standard for the iPhone X, many potential customers are wondering exactly how it will pick up where Touch ID left off. One example is with regards to app purchases in the iOS App Store. As shown by Reddit user Jjeffx, you simply tap the "Get" button next to a new app (not one that you've already installed before), double-click the Side button, and then Face ID authorizes the purchase. Images by Jjeffx/Reddit Don't Miss: Is the iPhone X Worth It? All the Latest Feedback from ReviewersThis is likely the way in-app purchases will be handed as well for the iPhone X, so you'll have three whole steps to decide if you really want to drop $100 on Clash of Clans.Apple tries to make this process as fast and intuitive as they can, but the experience is bogged down with prompts and awkward button clicks. Navigating purchases feels like a step backward for the newest iPhone, but something everyone will surely get used to in no time.Unfortunately, Apple removed the ability to disable this process for free app downloads back in iOS 10.3, so this option is not available on the iPhone X either. However, you can go into your "Face ID & Passcode" settings and toggle off "iTunes & App Store" from the list of things you can use Face ID for, which means you'll need to enter your passcode instead, which may be even a worse user experience.Don't Miss: How to Use Apple Pay with Face ID on the New iPhone XFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, and Instagram Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

How To: Scan Your Samsung Galaxy S3 for Malware, Infected Apps, & Unauthorized Surveillance
Former Vice President Dick Cheney was so fearful of attacks, he had his heart defibrillator re-calibrated to block incoming wireless signals so that highly skilled hackers couldn't send him into cardiac arrest. If hackers could potentially kill by turning someone's own defibrillator against them, just imagine what they could do to your smartphone.Thankfully, there are a bunch of anti-malware options out there for Android devices, and new to that list is Malwarebytes: Anti-malware, created by Malwarebytes, who's been helping to protect PCs from malicious software since 2004. They're a trusted name in the realm of computer security and protection, and now we can use it on our Samsung Galaxy S3 too. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Malwarebytes: Anti-Malware MobileThis application is designed to help protect your Samsung Galaxy S3 or other Android device by monitoring, managing, and scanning all the applications and files on your device. Malwarebytes has three main features: Scan Now, App Manager, and Privacy Manager, all designed to help better protect your GS3. It also automatically updates the protection database to keep your phone safe from the newest threats.

Using the 'Scan Now' FeatureUtilizing the Scan Now feature, Malwarebytes will scan your device for any potential malware threats. It scans your SD card, main memory, applications, and files for any malware or spyware. It also scans your apps for malicious code.

How to Schedule Your ScansIf you want to catch malicious threats before they hit, you can schedule scans in the Settings menu (available by clicking on the three-dot icon). By default, the app will be set to automatically scan your device daily, but you can change that to weekly. You can also disable it entirely if you want and stick to manual scans.

How to Hide the Icon from the Status BarFor some reason, the Malwarebytes icon stays present in your Status bar at all times unless you hide it. This option can also be accessed in the Settings menu. The icon remains there to inform you that the protection is currently running, but if it never goes away, hiding it will make no difference, and will clean up your Status bar a bit. Malwarebytes is also ever present in the Notification tray unless you force close the app (Settings -> App manager -> Force Stop) or uninstall it altogether.

Using the 'App Manager' FeatureApp Manager is one of the less valuable features of Malwarebytes because it just takes the same information from the stock App Manager that you can access in your GS3's Settings, only disregarding Downloaded applications. It displays your running and installed apps and also allows you to force close and view app information. You can also add apps to the Whitelist so that Malwarebytes will not scan these apps in future scans. However, it seems that the Whitelist feature is a little buggy, as I never got it to work. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.

Using the 'Privacy Manager' FeaturePrivacy Manager gives you a rundown of what apps have access to some of your private data like Google Accounts, text messages, contacts, and even apps that could cost you money down the line. This is most useful if somehow, someway, someone snagged your device and installed some shady application on it. Otherwise, you should already know what applications are running on your device. However, you may be surprised by what apps have permissions that you were unaware of. Like Everything Home having access to my contacts and text messages. You can chose to limit those applications or remove them all together, though, if you want.

Using the 'Security Audit' FeatureSecurity Audit can be found in the Privacy Manager section, and basically gives you recommendations on how to better address your phone's security issues. For example, if you don't have a lock pattern set up, Security Audit will see that and suggest you do so. All you need to do is select the suggestion and it will automatically take you to where you can enable the security measure. Of course, for most users, these are very basic things. Nevertheless, having reminders or extra features in a security application isn't the worst thing in the world. The Security Audit isn't much of an audit, but for super super newbies, it might help address some of the more basic security issues.
Is Malwarebytes Mobile Useful?All-in-all, Malwarebytes: Anti-malware is most useful for scanning your device for unknown malware. This is something you probably can't just do on your own. The other added features are of course useful, but not groundbreaking, but given the company's tried and trusted name, it's still worth a download if you want another layer of added protection for your device.

We need to take our privacy and security much more seriously. Whether it's malware-infected apps or the mishandling of our data by companies like Facebook, there are threats all around us in this digital world. Fortunately, some smartphones are simply designed to protect us better. Once again, a

How To: Turn on Google Pixel's 'Night Light' Function to Sleep Better

How To: Turn on Google Pixel's 'Night Light' Function to Sleep Better
Blue light (like that from our smartphone) tricks the human brain into thinking it's still daytime, even if it's coming from something as small as a screen. So while you're playing around with your new Pixel or Pixel XL after dark, subconscious signals to be awake are preventing you from getting to sleep as early as you should.Luckily, the Google Pixel's "Night Light" feature helps solve the problem. Similar to the iPhone's Night Shift mode or the f.lux app for desktop, this works by applying a blue light screen filter so that your phone will stop sending the wrong signals to your brain. Night Light isn't enabled by default, though, so you'll have to take a second to set things up if you want it to work.Don't Miss: How to Enable the Wi-Fi Assistant on Your Pixel to Get Secure Access to Open Networks

Method 1: Enable Automatic Night Light in SettingsThere are two ways to enable Night Light—either automatically based on time of day, or manually by using a Quick Settings tile. In this first section, we'll cover the automatic method. To start, head to the Display menu in Settings, then select the "Night Light" option. From here, tap the "Turn on automatically" entry, then choose "Sunset to sunrise" from the drop-down menu. This will apply the blue-cancelling screen filter to your phone every night at sunset, and the effect's intensity will gradually increase as the sun goes down. Note that you can also choose "Custom schedule" from this same menu if you'd rather choose specific times when the blue-cancelling filter will kick in.

Method 2: Enable the Night Light Quick Settings ToggleIf you'd rather handle the Night Light settings yourself, you can add a Quick Settings tile that lets you quickly toggle the blue-cancelling filter on or off.To try this, swipe down twice from the top of your screen to fully expand your Quick Settings menu. From here, tap the pencil-shaped edit button, then scroll through the list to find the Night Light tile. Next, long-press the Night Light tile, then drag it up into the darker gray area at the top of the screen. Once you've done that, hit your back button, then you'll have a handy switch for enabling Night Light at any time.Don't Miss: How to Add Your Own Quick Settings Tiles in Android Nougat

Sleep Better with a Blue-Cancelling FilterFrom now on, whether you wait for the feature to activate automatically or enable it with the toggle, your screen will have an orange hue when Night Light mode is on. This means that your screen will emit fewer blue light frequencies, making it easier for you to fall asleep at night—especially if you normally use your Pixel after dark. How To: Get CyanogenMod's "Theme Engine" Themes on Your Nexus 5

How To: Get CyanogenMod's "Theme Engine" Themes on Your Nexus 5
Surely you've heard of the wildly-popular custom ROM CyanogenMod, right? As the longest-tenured third-party firmware for Android devices, CM has been able to maintain its popularity by supporting a wide array of devices and offering many customization options. One such customization option is its "Theme Engine" functionality. It offers the ability to install themes in the form of simple apps, then apply the theme from CyanogenMod's settings interface. These themes are very far-reaching, too. They can change the look of almost everything on your phone—from system menus to app icons.Usually, in order to get this functionality on your device, you'd have to go through the process of installing CyanogenMod (or one of the other custom ROMs that have since ported this feature), and end up losing your existing settings configurations, among other data. But developer Hai Duong Nguyen has brought CyanogenMod's Theme Engine functionality to the stock firmware on our Nexus devices by way of the Xposed Framework. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
PrerequisitiesRooted Nexus device Xposed Framework installed Unknown Sources enabled

Step 1: Install HKThemeManagerThe module that lays the groundwork for you to use in applying CyanogenMod themes on your stock ROM is called HKThemeManager. Head to the Download section of your Xposed Installer app to search it by name, then tap the top result and swipe over to the Versions tab. From here, hit the Download button for the most recent entry. You can also download the module directly through this link. The installer will automatically launch, so press Install on the next screen. After that, you'll see a notification from Xposed letting you know that the module isn't activated yet and a reboot is needed. Tap the Activate and reboot button on this notification, and Xposed will handle the rest for you.

Step 2: Install a CyanogenMod ThemeThere are many CyanogenMod-compatible themes available on the Play Store. Search "CM Theme" to have a look at some of the options.Unfortunately, some of these themes use an XML file to theme Android, and the Xposed Framework itself is not capable of applying these files. As a result, some CyanogenMod themes you download from the Play Store may or may not work with HKThemeManager. But the developer has been kind enough to "fix" a decent selection of these themes to make them compatible with his module. He's hosted the installer files for these fixed themes on Google Drive. Just tap this link from your Nexus device to view the complete list. If asked, open the link with your Google Drive app. From here, the process of installing a theme is simple. Just tap one of the APK files listed, then Android's installer interface will launch automatically. Tap Install on that screen, then when finished, hit Done. You can repeat this process with as many themes as you'd like. You'll be able to view the theme's overall look when it comes time to apply it.

Step 3: Apply a ThemeTo apply a theme, just open up the HKThemeManager app from your app drawer. It will ask for Superuser privileges the first time you run it, so grant it those. Next, you'll be shown a menu with all of the compatible CyanogenMod themes you've installed on your device. You can swipe to either side to view the different themes, and when you've found one that you'd like to apply, just hit the Apply button. After that, simply hit Set Theme, and you'll be taken into an interface where you can adjust the various elements that the theme is capable of theming. Here, all of the theme's various elements are enabled by default. If you find something that you'd rather not have themed, you can simply untick the corresponding box. When you're ready, just hit Set Theme. A reboot is needed for the changes to become active, so hit Update Now to take care of that part. As soon as you get back up, your theme will be active. As I said earlier, these themes are very far-reaching. Everything from app icons to system menus has been themed. Which theme do you like the best? Let us know in the comments section below.

News: The Galaxy S8 Once Had a Home Button & It Looked Terrible

It looks like Samsung was thinking about slapping a little nub of a home button on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. This is according to a patent published by the European Trade Mark and Design Network, uncovered by Android Headlines. Despite having a nearly bezel-less display on their latest flagships, the South Korean manufacturer apparently considered modeling the design after last year's Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The button is a lot smaller than the S7 variants. Android Headlines even speculates that it's possible the button was actually a fingerprint scanner, as it doesn't pop through on either side of the design. Though, what is noticeable is the fact that this design features the infamous Bixby button, indicating that the physical home button may have been a serious prototype considered for the S8 lineup. Images via European Trade Mark and Design Network The patent was registered on April 7, 2017 and published on April 28, indicating that Samsung may have been experimenting with the idea of the home button up until the last minute of the Galaxy S8's release. It's possible that the tech company never planned on using the home button, and perhaps just wanted to secure it as an option before someone else beat them to it.Don't Miss: Galaxy S8s Are Experiencing Screen Burn-in (& It's Not Just the Home Button)For those of you used to using your thumb to wake your phone, having a physical home button on the Galaxy S8s might sound like a nice idea. But can you imagine trying to press that tiny little awkwardly-placed thing every time you needed to enter your phone? It would probably increase the chances of dropping your phone if your finger ever slipped, and it surely wouldn't work great with a case, either. Not only that, but why ruin Samsung's sleek design? The smartphone looks bezel-less and infinite for a reason. There's no need to ruin it by putting a little sliver of a home button to distract you from how great it looks. All in all, we do have to give Samsung some credit for not going with this design. It's not like they need any more hate at the moment. I think they've got all that junk pretty much covered.Don't Miss: Hide the Navigation & Status Bars on Your Galaxy S8 for Even More Screen Real Estate — No Root NeededFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Apple Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow Android Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (left) and the Galaxy S7 are finally here. Killer Displays. The only differences between the two handsets spec-wise are the display size—S7 edge has a 5.5" curved display, compared to the S7's 5.1" display—and the battery size—3,600 mAh for the S7 edge; 3,000 mAh for the S7.

After years of user complaints, Samsung is finally letting us remap the Bixby button without the need of a third-party app. The new feature requires One UI a simple app update to Bixby, but there's one major downside: Samsung won't let you remap the button to open other digital assistants like Amazon Echo, Microsoft Cortana, and Google Assistant.

All the stuff I hated about the S5—the home button, questionable build materials, and ugly software-have been fixed with the S7. While it does still have a home button, which I don't really like, I haven't once had it turn on in my pocket, regardless of what I'm doing or how I'm moving.
